# Comments

- Comments let you and your collaborators discuss a block without editing it: questions, feedback, or side notes that stay out of the text itself.
- Threads open in the [[Right Sidebar]], so the conversation sits next to the thing it's about.

### How to comment

- Hold `Cmd` (Mac) or `Ctrl` (PC) and hover over a block, then click the **+** button that appears at its right edge.
- Or run **Comment on current block** while your cursor is in the block:
  - Mac: `Cmd-Alt-=`
  - PC: `Ctrl-Alt-=`
- Either way, the thread opens in the right sidebar with an empty comment ready for you to type.
- Replies are just blocks: type more in the thread to continue the conversation.

### Where comments live

- Comments are ordinary blocks on the same page as the block they discuss. They collect in a collapsed [[roam/comments]] block at the bottom of the page, grouped by date and author, and each thread starts with a `((block ref))` to the block it's about.
- Because of that reference, a commented block shows a reference count at its right edge, and its comment threads appear among its linked references.
- Since comments are ordinary blocks, they sync, search, and export like the rest of your graph.

### Good to know

- Commenting needs edit access to the graph, so read-only visitors can't comment.
- AI tools connected through [[Roam MCP]] or the [[Local MCP]] can read and add comments too, which lets an agent leave feedback without touching your text.
