# Desktop App

- The desktop app is the full Roam in a standalone window, for Mac, Windows, and Linux. [[Install Roam]] covers the download.
- It's the same Roam as the browser version, plus a few things only an app can do.

### What's different from the browser

- `roam://` deep links open a specific graph, page, or block straight in the app, which makes Roam linkable from other tools.
- The app is a thin shell around Roam, with a version number of its own. It keeps itself up to date automatically.
- The Roam inside it updates just like the web app does, so both stay current without you doing anything. [[Updating Roam]] has the details.
- [[Local API Tokens]], for connecting local AI tools to your graphs via [[Local MCP]], only exist on desktop.
